Partnership connects a network of more than 650 Arab cities and municipalities with opportunities for capacity building, knowledge exchange and green economy cooperation.
Dubai, UAE, October 2026: The World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Arab Towns Organization (ATO) to strengthen cooperation in sustainable urban development, accelerate the transition to a green economy and support cities in addressing climate change.
The MoU was signed during the World Green Economy Summit 2026 by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of WGEO, and HE Bader Wael Al-Askar, Secretary-General of the Arab Towns Organization.
The partnership establishes a framework for joint capacity-building activities, knowledge sharing and the exchange of urban sustainability practices. Cooperation will include workshops, seminars and conferences that support Arab cities in adopting green economy approaches and carbon-neutral solutions.
Through ATO’s network of more than 650 member cities and municipalities, the partnership will broaden opportunities for cooperation on climate action, biodiversity, smart cities and energy efficiency. It will also facilitate ATO’s accession to WGEO as a non-founding member and create pathways for its member cities to engage with WGEO’s Cities Platform and the Global Alliance on Green Economy.
For WGEO, the agreement strengthens the Cities Platform’s role in connecting local government priorities with international expertise and practical sustainability solutions. The partnership aims to help cities build institutional capabilities, learn from one another and develop projects that contribute to the Paris Agreement and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
