WEGO Director General Receives Fiji Ambassador to Discuss Country’s Interest in Joining Global Green Economy Alliance and WEGO Support to Fiji

Dubai, UAE – On 11 April 2023, The Director General of the World Green Economy Organization (WEGO), Abdulrahim Sultan, met with His Excellency Naipote Tako Katonitabua, Ambassador of Fiji to the UAE and discussed Fiji’s interest in joining the Global Alliance on Green Economy.

During the meeting, Ambassador Katonitabua highlighted Fiji’s commitment to transitioning to a low-carbon and sustainable economy and its interest in joining the Global Alliance on Green Economy. The Ambassador also briefed the Director General on Fiji’s arrangements and participation for COP28, to be held in Dubai in November 2023. The Director General communicated WEGO’s readiness to support Fiji’s green economy initiatives through access to finance and technical assistance, capacity building, and knowledge sharing.

The challenges faced by Fiji as a small island developing state, including its vulnerability to climate change impacts were also discussed during the meeting which was concluded with a mutual commitment towards advancing the green economy agenda and achieving sustainable development goals.
