WGEO at COP25

The UN Climate Change Twenty-fifth Conference of Parties (COP25) was held from the 2nd to the 13th of December in Madrid, Spain, under the presidency of the Government of Chile with logistical support from the Government of Spain.

The senior management of WGEO was part of the UAE delegation at (COP 25) and successfully conducted a number of activities bringing the WGEO vision, mission and added-value to the international community at one of the leading global platforms for climate action.

Announcement of MENA Climate Week 2020

At COP25 it was announced that the first ever MENA Climate Week will take place in 2020 in Dubai during the World Expo 2020. This announcement was made to global media at a high-level press conference. H.E. Dr. Thani Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, UAE and H.E. Saeed Al Tayer, Chairman, WGEO joined the press conference to declare the intention to host MENA Climate Week 2020 in Dubai. To mark the announcement, specially curated brochures and folders on MENA Climate Week 2020 were shared with high-level country representatives at the Conference.

Capacity Development: WGEO Executive Training on Green Economy on the Context of Sustainable Development

At COP25, WGEO showcased its leadership and expertise in capacity-building. The proprietary WGEO training course on green economy principles, entitled ‘Executive Training Program on Green Economy in the Context of Sustainable Development’, was offered to participants of COP25. To date, the WGEO Executive Training has been undertaken by 19 individuals.

Bilateral meeting of the Executive Secretary, UN Climate Change Secretariat & Chairman, WGEO at COP25

A special strategic meeting was held between H.E. Al Tayer and the WGEO delegation and Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary, UN Climate Change to discuss the cooperation and partnership between the two organizations. The meeting highlighted the important leadership role that WGEO is playing to catalyze the regional and global climate action agendas and the transition to the green economy.
