BACKGROUND

WGEO has developed a strategy map for engaging with varied global stakeholders in a collaborative and innovative approach. In February 2017, WGEO has successfully launched its Private Sector Platform in Dubai, UAE. The Private Sector Platform will offer to the global business community tools aimed at mitigating climate-related investment risks. Since then, WGEO has developed the Academia, Youth, Organisations & Civil Society Platforms, and the Smart and Sustainable Cities Platform was announced in Seoul, Korea in May 2017. Most recently in September 2017 in Beijing, China, WGEO announced its Financial Sector Platform, which will help develop green financing and blended products, seeking to share targeted knowledge and to replicate success through its information-sharing network and the provision of project opportunities for its members. Through WGEO, Dubai Government has been able to study successful models of financing USD 27 Billion of green economy projects that have been initiated. These include smart cities, renewable energy and water conservation. Consequently Dubai Government has announced the setting up of a Dubai Green Fund which will attract private sector financial institutions in taking on a responsible and sustainable financial position to put in a place a plan to fund the USD 27 Billion required by Dubai and other nations covered by their network.

In October 2017, during the World Green Economy Summit in Dubai, UAE, WGEO will announce its Countries Platform. The Platform will bring together countries interested in supporting green economy to express their interest in WGEO and will focus on providing the much sought after national-level support and guidance that will be necessary to make our story a success, and develop collaborative partnerships with various private sector entities, governments and international organizations. WGEO, supported by, the UN, IRENA, GGGI and many other partners, is now in talks with several countries that have expressed their interest to join the Countries Platform of WGEO.
