Yesterday, in honour of the Year of Zayed, the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment had organized an event to raise awareness about the late Sheikh Zayed’s achievements and contributions to the environment and sustainable development. The year 2018 marks 100 years since the birth of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and has been declared as the “Year of Zayed” by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.
The session highlighted the environmental legacy and leadership of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and announced the launch of the report on South-South in Action Special Edition featuring United Arab Emirates support to advocate and showcase SSTC solutions—Commemorating the Global South-South Development Expo 2016. It was also announced by the Zayed Foundation that the SSIA special edition will be translated into Arabic to benefit more developing countries from the Arab States region.
It also raised awareness on how the global development community can better work together to encourage environmental achievements supporting, whilst promoting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, and how the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment is working to promote the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
Founded in 1999 by UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment was established to recognise and encourage environmental achievements supporting and promoting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as Agenda 21, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Johannesburg Plan of Implementation for Sustainable Development, and outcomes of Rio+20; which are in line with the vision and philosophy of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the United Arab Emirates.
The event was organized on the sidelines of the World Green Economy Summit 2018, by the World Green Economy Organization and the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC).
