Conference of the Parties (COP 27)

The Global political will, supported by science heading to a paradigm shift through just and ambitious transformation. IPCC has provided the credible science, successive COP decisions laid out the collective governmental actions, The Convention and its agreements outlined the principles, legal obligations and guidelines for collective action. Recent IPCC reports have highlighted the gravity of the climate crisis and the need for immediate and sustained political will, impactful action and effective cooperation. Building on Glasgow's momentum, the world is seeking further enhance the scope of deliverables across the climate action agenda. The progress needed on the ground on all aspects of our work; mitigation, adaptation, finance, loss and damage, is a global demand. The challenges and the opportunities related to climate action, and the potentials and needs of all including those who are in vulnerable situations and the vulnerable communities, we have to be stand ready to engage with all parties to accelerate climate action.

The Role of Green Economy in Nature Based Solutions

This session aims to address climate-related challenges in the context of the MENA region, such as air, water and soil pollution and the adoption of inclusive and holistic lenses to climate change through nature-based solutions and climate justice. The session will furthermore emphasize the importance of international partnerships, social innovation, and private sector engagement to provide an essential solution for the development of nature-based solutions.

UN Climate Change Global Innovation Hub Pavilion
At COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, the UNFCCC Global Innovation Hub organized a session focused on developing climate and sustainability financial solutions to address the severe effects of climate change. Dr. Eesa Mohammed Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai, and WGEO Chairman of Academia and Youth Platform activities shed light on the importance of low-emission and resilient development, while highlighting the need to build key players' capacity and to encourage climate finance mobilization.

In a session organized by the UNFCCC Global Innovation Hub, industry leaders had the opportunity to exchange knowledge and understand the challenges cities in the MENA region face in terms of vulnerabilities. In his opening remarks, Waleed Bin Salman, Vice Chairman, World Green Economy Organization spoke about the opportunities for climate and sustainability innovations in developing nations. Additionally, the session focused on the innovation enabled by the MENA region, which aims to reduce emissions and grow more resiliently.

In collaboration with UNFCCC and HSBC, WGEO hosted the ‘Just Transition’ workshop that discussed strategies to support the implementation of ‘Just Transition’ and consideration of emerging markets. During the session, Waleed Bin Salman, Vice Chairman, World Green Economy Organization, invited fellow leaders to discuss practical steps that financial institutions and key decarbonisation sectors could take to integrate Just Transition principles into Net Zero plans, as well as practical considerations for effective Just Energy Transition Partnerships.
