Wednesday, November 16, 2022

12:45 PM - 1:30 PM

UAE Pavilion, Blue Zone, COP 27, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt

BACKGROUND

Under the theme of “delivering for people and planet”, the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27) will physically convene heads of State, ministers and negotiators, climate activists, civil society representatives and CEOs to build on COP26 and accelerate progress on the Paris agreement. As world leaders convene at COP27 to accelerate climate action, more than 70 delegates are representing the United Arab Emirates and its vision to lead and shape the Net-Zero agenda.

In line with the Paris agreement, the UAE announced over a year ago its national drive to accelerate its just and sustainable transition by committing to become Net-Zero by 2050 as well as confirmed its support in creating practical climate solutions for developing countries to meet their aspirations at the needed pace and scale. The government’s efforts to transition to net-zero emissions was more recently reflected through its selection to host the 28th international climate summit Conference of the Parties (COP28) in 2023, whereby notably the third and final phase of the Global Stocktake will greatly help identify opportunities and challenges, as well as possible measures and best practices for climate action and international cooperation.

SESSION OVERVIEW

This session aims to engage key players in the UAE climate’s agenda to understand and highlight strategic initiatives contributing to the UAE Net-Zero’s roadmap. The session will additionally address expected outcomes from COP28, its legacies, and role in scaling up credible commitments and roadmaps towards climate mitigation, adaptation, and implementation.
