WGEO Executive Training on Green Economy in the Context of Sustainable Development
WGEO has created a unique and highly interactive executive training programme with the purpose of leading the foundational work of developing a green economy infrastructure to facilitate action on the ground. The WGEO Executive Training entitled “Green Economy in the Context of Sustainable Development” aims to equip participants with a sound understanding of the key principles, dimensions, and trends in the process of transition to a green economy at national, regional and global levels. Participants will additionally become familiar with the tools and methods to catalyze proactive green action. Participants will also be able to effectively apply the knowledge they have acquired towards advancing the green economy agenda and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals on the ground through sharing practices and exploring ways to enhance political, economic, social, financial and technical collaboration in the field of green economy and mobilizing relevant partnerships.
Target Audience
The Executive Training Course on Green Economy is targeted at executives and decision makers representing national governments international organizations, private sector, financial institutions as well as civil society organizations, including mass media. The course is designed to provide executives and decision makers with an opportunity to re-acquaint or familiarize themselves with core principles, dimensions, trends, tools and methodologies in scaling up the transition to a green economy model.
Modules
Delivered by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)
This module takes an integrative, multidisciplinary approach towards promoting environmentally sustainable economic growth by explaining the essential aspects of Resource Efficiency, Green Economy, Circular Economy and exploring related policy options.
Delivered by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)
This module will explore the transformational approaches in harnessing technological opportunities to facilitate the provision of sustainable urban services in support of a green economy. Using GGGI’s Green Cities policy and investment projects as case studies, green city planning tools and methods are presented with reference to specific case studies.
Delivered by the International Solar Alliance (ISA)
This module will address a subject of acceleration of investment in cleaner, smarter and more efficient energy technologies that is required for rapid, least-cost energy transitions, thus offering a long-lasting effect on environmental quality and public health while also resulting in improved human well-being and social equity for each country.
Delivered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
This module will look deeply into the process of formulation of common Green Action Accelerators for the region as well as their linkages to the national development priorities of all participating countries. It will further guide the participants towards identification of drivers and interventions for specific Green Action Accelerators, as well as will explore practical steps in identifying capacity gaps as well as identification of relevant partners.
Delivered by the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO)
This module will look into different aspects for promoting green investment. It will also highlight the potential that sector-based green investment can potentially offer on the economic, social and environmental fronts. Participants will have an opportunity to exchange views and share their own experience on green investment opportunities and initiatives, as well as to learn about opportunities and the latest trends in green investments, potential sources of funding and the enabling and policy measures needed to facilitate and encourage green investment.

This module will analyze key generic regulatory barriers for the transition to green and circular economy, as well as will provide the overview of the key problem areas, solution options and possible interdependencies between such solution options that need to be taken into account while designing and implementing complex policies & regulatory frameworks in support to the transition to a green economy model.

Expected Outcome
Upon successful completion of the Executive Training Course on Green Economy, participants will:
- 1. Understand the foundational principles, dimensions and trends in the transition to a green economy in the context of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda;
- 2. Be familiar with the most recent tools and methods in transitioning to a green economy including application of relevant financial instruments.
- 3. Be able to effectively apply the knowledge acquired in advancing the green economy agenda and implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in their respective countries.
- 4. Understanding the various elements of SDGs including financing for development.
