Background

The aim of the “2nd Preparatory Conference on the Establishment of the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO)” was to facilitate consensus of potential members on the text of the “Agreement establishing the World Green Economy Organization” (WGEO Agreement), to allow finalization and signature of the WGEO Agreement at the Founding Conference.

The Conference provided an overview of WGEO’s core functions and innovative features as a multi-stakeholder institution that gives a voice to stakeholders in decision-making and and relies on non-state members for funding and implementation of operational activities.

The Conference addressed the need to strengthen public-private cooperation, as well as enhance the role of the WGEO in encouraging investors and financiers to invest in bankable green projects.

The Conference witnessed wide participation from senior government officials, representatives of international organizations and major local and international private sector companies. In line with this, discussions are also set to take place to finalize the Organization’s founding agreement, define the core strategic functions of WGEO, create the roadmap for the Organization’s actionable framework and identify its innovative features as a multi-stakeholder institution that ensures the participation of all stakeholders in the decision-making process.
